OJ Baker submitted, tackling new project
As you may have known, I've been really really busy lately. Last Monday, November 2nd, our O. J. Baker boards were due. This is what took a majority of my time. I think my board came out well. Here is a preview and a download (Warning: the download file is pretty big - 51.1mb. Only download it if you REALLY want to see my board at full scale).
So, the boards were due Monday at 12:30 and immediately after that, we got started on our next project: a place for memory and loss. Sounds, funny, doesn't it? The project is based in Cocodrie, LA, which is about as far south as you can get. Here's a panoramic photo that I took of the site. It's so beautiful!
So, what does a place for memory and loss look like, you may ask....I don't really know. Cocodrie has the highest erosion rate in the world (something like 300 yards of ground per year). That is what a visitor is supposed to be made aware of. A large part of the erosion is due to hurricanes. This area has certainly seen its share of hurricanes as many of the houses still have hurricane damage from last years storms. Lots of people hold dear their memories of life before hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav, and others. This is supposed to be the "memory" portion of the project.
To sum it up, we're supposed to make a visitor aware of the erosion (loss) and remember the hurricanes (memory). As this project develops, I will post and let you know what's up. To give you a little hint, I am investigating a phenomenon called "camera obscura." You can look it up for yourself, but here is a small preview.
