I don’t know if any of my readers (if I have any, that is) know what my school life is like, but I will try explaining it here.
I am an architecture major at LSU School of Architecture. If anyone has heard anything about an architecture student, they have probably heard that we LIVE in studio. This isn’t entirely true, if you happen to be a beast at budgeting your time. A friend of mine has never had an all-nighter. However, most of us have a few of those a month. It’s not because we procrastinate (we do), but because the workload is incredibly heavy. Since this is MY blog, I guess I can complain about it here.
The workload is crazy. To start off, class time is 12:30-4:30 every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. That is 12 hours a week that we’re REQUIRED to be here. Usually, we have to be here like 25-30 hours a week. And that’s just for studio! I also have structures, architecture history, and my materials/methods. They say 3rd year is the toughest and it’s looking that way.
I am in studio now (not doing my project). Here’s my desk:
So we have to build a model, have it critiqued, and then we build another iteration for the next class period. You can see a couple of the iterations of my “collodels” right there in the bottom right of that picture.
Ok I’m done writing for now…I may post another like this soon, with more pictures. But no promises..
Yours truly,
