I’m back in Baton Rouge now. I’ve been moving around from place to place for 4 years now. It all started when I began attending The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts…I moved there in the Fall of 2005, anxious to see what this new world would give me. Besides the wonderful education, it taught me a lot. I guess the biggest thing was getting used to living away from my family and friends. Sure, I kept up with a few friends, but I lost contact with a majority (I’d say 95%) of my friends. I think of this as a sad but necessary event.
Just like every other “giftie” that attended LSMSA, I would live there during the semester, only coming home for winter and summer breaks. Well, I made weekend trips, but I only lived at home during those breaks. I have been living that life ever since. After two years at LSMSA, I began attending Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La. I kept up this live-at-home-during-breaks until now. I’ll still be going home this winter, but after that, I will most likely be moving to Baton Rouge.
Seems like a big step, right? I think so. While I am excited about moving out of my parent’s house and on with my life, I am still deeply tied to Morgan City. After all, I was basically raised there. Sure, I complain about how there is nothing there (there really isn’t much there), but somehow I still love the place. Mostly, it’s the people there. The the people I know Morgan City are the epitome of “southern hospitality.” I will always love and remember those people.
As I sit here in my dorm room, considering what to do next with my time, these are the thoughts that run through my head.
